The French Horn has been a public house since the 1700's and we're proud to be a part of Alton's history, "The Butts" by which we are located was named in the 1500's after the Archery Butts where, at that time, Archers had to practise by law! Jane Austin also lived in nearby Chawton and you can visit her house which is now a museum.
Sadly you won't find Mr Darcy or Elizabeth Bennet at the bar but you will find our friendly and welcoming team ready to serve you with some great food and drink!
We hold a Cask Marque Award for serving great quality real ale and always have six real ales on tap including the local brew Alton Pride. We also have an excellent selection of wines by the bottle or glass and other beers and ciders on tap.
You can enjoy a drink in our traditional bar with open fire place, which we use daily in the Winter or outside in one of our three large gardens.
All our food is freshly prepared by our Chefs Kevin and Alistair and we have delicious daily specials alongside our menus. We're well known for our great Sunday roasts so best to book in advance for those and our Chefs are happy to discuss any dietary requirements you may have.
And not forgetting the Watercress Line which goes right past the end of the pub, we love watching the steam trains go by while enjoying a cheeky pint and hope you do too!
We look forward to seeing you soon.
